February 2009: It’s Not Me, It’s Morrissey
Here’s a sort of overview for some releases I expect to be awesome coming out this month.
(2/10) Lily Allen - It’s Not Me, It’s You: Lily Allen, the daughter of a famous British comedian, stunned and wowed critics and listeners on both sides of the pond with her debut record, Alright Still, a good modern musing on relationships and her own strange lifestyle. This album is expected to be more of a dance-pop release and expected (read: I have heard the record already and can tell you personally) to be much much better. Also, it has a happy toned song called “F–k You,” so this cannot possibly be seen as a bad release at all.
(2/17) Morrissey - Years of Refusal: The enigmatic British iconoclast comes out of hiding to release another solo record and presumably stun fans with the idea that he’s still got it in relation to being a solid musician. Also on tap is more numbers about Morrissey’s infamous antisocial nature — as one song called “I’m OK By Myself” already proves — and ambiguous sexuality. At least I’d assume these things are on tap. For all I know, Morrissey could be happy and satisfied with life, though, such a thing is totally improbable.
Other Notables:
The Lonely Island - Incredibad (2/10)
Mos Def - The Ecstatic (2/24)
(possibly) Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3 (date undetermined)
Anyways, get ready for some solid stuff in February. Well…maybe…if we’re lucky.
